After a full weekend in Karmiel it was very hard to get ourselves up and running on Sunday morning. We had planned a very full week for my sister's last week in Israel but unfortunately the demon sleep intervened and we had to creatively change around some plans. Originally we had planned to go into Jerusalem on Sunday to go to Yad Vashem (the Holocaust memorial museum) and the old city, but since we slept in until almost noon we wouldn't have gotten into the city in time to really see the museum as it should be seen. Instead we decided to go back up north to explore the town of Zichron Yaakov and move our Jerusalem trip to the day that was originally scheduled for Zichron a few days after.
Feeling very experienced in Israeli train rides we headed across the street to the train station, bought our tickets for the neighboring town of Binyamina, and headed off back up to the North of the country. When we arrived in Binyamina we caught a taxi where we took a short ride to the town of Zichron Yaakov. I was there with my class not so long ago and was pleased to see that everything still looked very familiar, and was just as beautiful as I remembered it. I greatly enjoyed the town when I first had the pleasure of visiting it and my second trip was just as fun. The first stop we made was to a beautiful wall memorial commemorating the founders of the town, we took a few much needed photos, and then were off to explore the main strip of the town where we ate lunch and did some window shopping!

After taking our fill of pictures we walked around the main strip of the little town and enjoyed a lovely lunch where I even made a little friend who I was more than happy to share my food with. I never finish a meal anyways so I might have helped a little guy in need!

The rest of the trip was spent wandering around the little town. It was very hot but overall a lovely day. However, we ran into a bit of a snag when we decided it was time to leave. At first we spent at least 30 minutes wandering around looking for a taxi to pick us up and take us back to the train station. After giving up on a lost cause we decided to sit and wait for a bus that would either take us to the train station or right back to Tel Aviv. After almost an hour waiting there we realized that busses just weren't coming. Wanting to be proactive we decided to walk off towards where we thought a taxis might be, however, again, we failed in our attempt to leave the town. We walked and walked and were so excited when we finally saw cars, however, we discovered we made a big circle and were right back next to the restaurant we ate lunch at... When we had finally given up hope of ever leaving Zichron a taxi happened to drive by and we practically jumped on it to ensure we got a ride back to Binyamina. 15 minutes later we were back at the train station and on our way home to Tel Aviv. As much as I love the north, and love exploring Israel, there is nothing like coming home to Tel Aviv!
Haifa and Jerusalem posts to come :-)
Until we meet again,
Jordana Simone
